What is the Nayaswami Order?

Who is This Renunciate Order For?

The Renunciate Order for the New Age, founded in 2009 by Swami Kriyananda, is open to everyone who has inwardly dedicated his/her life to some degree to the search for God-realization – single people, those in a relationship, those following a religion or spiritual path or not. Today there are over xxxxx Renunciates in this Order, including Christians, Catholics, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and others.

Why a New Renunciate Order?

The traditional renunciate orders were started about the 8th century A.D in India, by Swami Adi-Shankaracharya, and in the West by Saint Benedict in the 5th century. Rather than emphasizing what a renunciate should give up, the new Order focuses on embracing and working towards higher states of Oneness with the Divine, the merging of the little self with the cosmic Self.

Swami Kriyananda’s book A Renunciate Order for the New Age explains the four stages of renunciate available within the Order – the Pilgrim, the Tyagi, the Brahmachari, and the Nayaswami. You can read all of the Vows here.
