“Change your thoughts if you wish to change your circumstances. Since you alone are responsible for your thoughts, only you can change them. You will want to change them when you realize that each thought creates according to its own nature. Remember that the law works at all times and that you are always demonstrating that according to the kind of thoughts which you habitually think. Therefore, start now to think only the kind of thoughts that bring you health, abundance, and happiness.”― Paramhansa Yogananda
Adapting to change in any form can be challenging. Whether it is changes in the world, or changes in our own lives, it is a constant part of life. Everything changes, and continues to change. If we don’t adapt to those changes, if we resist in any way, then we suffer. All spiritual teachings advise us to live in the moment, to be present, to be here and now. Beautiful ideals for us to aspire to, but how do we do that in moments of challenge.
The fact is, it’s best to work on it all the time, not only when we are in crisis.
Find ways to be more adaptable in small ways in your life. Maybe try to be more open to the opinions of others, or to listen more and talk less. When someone has a totally different world view try to listen without getting upset.
When we try to be adaptable and accept the reality of change and differences in our world, it will affect our lives in many ways. It has a profound effect on our relationships, our work, our way of thinking, feeling and acting.
Here are some ways to help you to learn to adapt to and accept change:
● Pray; ask God and Gurus to help you to adapt to any change that is challenging you.
Always remember to pray, whenever you need God’s help or guidance. Keep your heart, your life open to God’s presence.
● Believe that anything is possible when your effort and God’s grace work together.
Whatever is before you, know that it is coming from God. God wants you to call on Him, to trust Him and to know that everything comes from Him, even when it’s difficult and painful.
● Practice, practice, practice.
Concentrate your will and energy toward your goal. Anything we want to master, takes practice, and practice happens over time.
● Be patient and compassionate with yourself and others.
Change can happen quickly but can also be much slower. So then, it is important for us to have patience and compassion toward ourselves as we work toward changing old patterns and attitudes.
● Have faith in the process, you are a work in progress.
Practice makes perfect, it’s an old saying but it is very true. Learning anything takes time and energy. Our continued effort makes the process infallible; continue the process faithfully and success will follow.
Never lose sight of God and Guru’s closeness to you, in every moment of your life. Master said that we are God’s precious children and therefore nothing is too good for us. God wants our happiness and well-being, all that happens to us is to bring us to that reality. With faith and trust in God’s presence and support, anything is possible. Anything.
